The final ascent to the summit proves quite demanding. Between the cold, steep slopes, and ash swirling through the air, the last meters aren't always straightforward. It is nonetheless advisable to begin at night, allowing you to witness a spectacular sunrise upon reaching the summit—a moment no words can adequately capture. The sweeping vista across the entire island and its volcanic peaks appearing to float through a sea of clouds truly invites contemplation.

The starting point for Semeru's ascent is Ranu Pani village, situated at 2,200 m. It lies 373 km from the cultural city of Yogyakarta. Car rental remains your best option for reaching this location.
